A case against the phrase "Google It!"

I can't count how many times someone has posted in a forum that if you want more information that you should "Google it!"(Although there has been some occassions when Bing has payed to have characters say "Bing it!").

First, this phrase runs counter to Google's model of links being a vote for a site.  It's not really a vote for the status quo as well(the stater of Google It is rarely referring to the number one site) as usually the number one site doesn't have all the information or then the GoogleIter would just say go to this site.

When some says that phrase it usually means that there's no best source for the information and they are trying to get rid of you.  Do they really think the ads in the sidebar or at the top of the page will have good info?

Either there is one best source and you should just link to that page.  Or there is currently no best source and you should design your own page and link to that.  It wouldn't be so hot to post the answer in the post as forum posts are hard to find and don't rank as well as static pages.  Why not just say "Use a search engine" unless you are an employee of Google?  I would say use Ask just to be contradictary but ask just has too many ads.

Next time you say Google It make sure you agree 100% with what the search engines are showing.  I can't think of a single topic that couldn't have search engine results improved.  In real life, don't say Google It either say hey give me your email address and I'll email you the link.

Most of the time in real life when people say that phrase they haven't validated Google's search results and say it in a vain attempt to be helpful.  They think that magic Google fairies check all the results to provide you with the best results possible.

Telling someone to use Google to find information is like telling someone how to spell Kernal Sanders using the dictionary.
